Rather this place is well identified as a gateway town to Kolkata, as you can't enter Kolkata from Northern India without touching it. So lets visit the city and explore it. From Jain text Kalpasutra, it is known that 24th Jain Teerthankar Mahavira had spent some time here at Astikagram. Mahavira was also known as Vardhaman Swami.
